Preserving Yosemite’s Climbing Legacy, Protecting Its Future

The Yosemite Climbing Association (YCA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Yosemite’s rich climbing history, fostering a strong community of stewardship, and advocating for sustainable climbing practices. Through education, conservation, and advocacy, we ensure that Yosemite remains a world-class climbing destination for generations to come.

Our Mission

YCA’s mission is to preserve and protect the historic artifacts of Yosemite climbing while educating and inspiring a global audience about the significance and legacy of Yosemite’s climbing heritage.  Foster the education, mentoring, and environmental stewardship amongst Yosemite climbers including contemporary and future generations.

Our Vision

Our vision is to inspire the global community of climbers and interested members of the public to protect, preserve, and celebrate the rich heritage of climbing in Yosemite.  Ensure that future generations can experience Yosemite’s natural beauty, cultural significance, and the spirit of adventure that it embodies. We strive to be a leader in environmental stewardship, historical preservation, and inclusive education, fostering a deep respect for both the climbing tradition and the wilderness that sustains it.

Our Approach

Preserving Yosemite’s climbing legacy and protecting its future requires a hands-on, community-driven approach. We safeguard history through the Yosemite Climbing Museum, lead stewardship efforts like Yosemite Facelift, and promote education and advocacy to ensure responsible climbing and sustainable access. By engaging climbers and outdoor enthusiasts, we turn passion into action—honoring Yosemite’s past while shaping its future.

What we do

Preservation & History

YCA safeguards the legacy of climbing in Yosemite by curating the Yosemite Climbing Museum, home to one of the largest collection of climbing artifacts and memorabilia. We also partner with the Yosemite Valley Exploration Center to share Yosemite’s climbing heritage with park visitors.

Community Stewardship

We believe that those who love Yosemite should take part in protecting it. YCA organizes the annual Yosemite Facelift, the park’s largest volunteer cleanup event, removing thousands of pounds of trash each year. Facelift has also grown into a global movement, inspiring stewardship beyond Yosemite’s borders.

Advocacy & Sustainability

As an advocate for climbers and conservation, YCA works with land managers and policymakers to ensure sustainable access to climbing areas. We consult on climbing-related access issues, support public land protections, and help shape policies that balance recreation with conservation.

Education & Ethics

YCA promotes responsible climbing practices and works to instill a strong sense of ethics within the climbing community. We developed the Yosemite Climber’s Credo, a shared set of values designed to encourage respect for the park, its history, and its wilderness.

Supporting the Park & Community

YCA collaborates with Yosemite National Park Rangers, nonprofit partners, and local communities to support preservation initiatives, educational programs, and stewardship projects. Our membership program offers exclusive benefits to supporters who want to be a part of our mission.

Our Team

YCA is driven by a small but passionate team committed to preserving Yosemite’s climbing history and protecting its future. With dedication and love for the park, we work hard to inspire stewardship and strengthen the climbing community.
