Sustainability & Access: YCA Gym To Crag

Gym to Crag education plays a pivotal role in fostering responsible climbing practices and preserving the legacy of Yosemite's iconic climbing routes for future generations. As climbers transition from indoor gyms to outdoor crags, they encounter vastly different environments, challenges, and responsibilities.

Understanding the principles of Leave No Trace, proper equipment usage, route finding, and risk management is essential not only for personal safety but also for the preservation of delicate ecosystems and the mitigation of human impact on the natural landscape.

By investing in Gym to Crag education, we empower climbers to become stewards of the environment, ensuring that Yosemite's unparalleled beauty and climbing opportunities remain accessible and sustainable for years to come. Through education, we not only enhance the safety and enjoyment of climbers but also nurture a culture of respect for the land and its resources, safeguarding Yosemite's climbing legacy for future adventurers to cherish and explore.

Upcoming Gym To Crag Events:

Movement Gym San Francisco April 16th - Time TBD

In collaboration with Bay Area Climbers Coalition we will be hosting a presentation about best practices for transitioning from indoor to outdoor climbing. This particular presentation will focus on roped climbing. Keep checking back for future Gym to Crag events at other gyms and bouldering specific presentations. These types of presentations are helpful for all levels, and may also serve as reminders for people that have been regularly climbing outdoors. We look forward to seeing you there! This event is currently free for Movement Members.
