Richard  Leonard in the 1930's. Note the sewn straps on his shirt. These were for holding his pitons. Richard was instrumental in developing and introducing modern climbing techniques to California climbers and Yosemite. Richard was involved with the RCS section of the Sierra Club and did several impressive first ascents in the Valley including Higher and Lower Cathedral Spires. YCA collection.
